After being World Design Capital in 2008 and nominated Creative City for Design by Unesco in 2014, Torino is again city of Design. From an industrial hub to a creative centre, Torino has been able to recognise in design a factor of financial, social and cultural growth, thus the Piedmontese capital has been chosen by the World Design Organization to celebrate its sixty years of activity and its General Assembly.
During the convention, Torino dedicates a week to the theme Design of the City, with the aim of bringing to the attention of the citizens and the experts in the sector – Italian and international – the new trends of contemporary design, explaining how this discipline can intervene within the complex organism that a city can be.
From today to the 16th of October, events, meetings, workshops, exhibitions and tours will happen in the places that have experienced, and are experiencing, the urban regeneration phenomena, such as Via Sacchi, la Cavallerizza Reale, Torino Incontra, Lingotto Fiere, Circolo del Design. Furthermore, the extensive calendar of events intends to relaunch the design, the creativity and the productive sector in the Piedmont region, by enhancing its existing heritage.
